1. Speed Test - How to check if my Connection meets requirements:
You can check your connection speed by doing the following:
- Go to www.testmy.net
- Once there, click the button that says "Test My Internet” (it’s near the top of the screen)
- Allow the test to fully complete.
- If you need to send these results to customer support, take a screenshot of the results and attach to a reply. If you’re unsure how to take a screenshot, visit https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ for details.
2. Traceroute - Connecting to servers
In addition to these Internet speed requirements, the game requires your computer to be able to communicate efficiently with our servers. Many game activities are resolved on our servers, so if your connection experiences interruptions, this can seriously affect game performance.
You can check for problems in this department by performing a test called a traceroute. This is the route your signal takes to reach our servers and return to you. When these server-to-server "hops" have ping times over 100ms, players start experiencing performance issues; above 150ms, players can expect significant lag, packet loss, and disconnections. Dropped data in the test results (indicated in the test window by * or **) will also affect performance.
You can run your own traceroute test. To run a traceroute on a PC (for Mac, scroll down further), please follow the instructions below.
Traceroute on PC
- Press the Start button (or Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard).
- Type "cmd" (without quotations) into the search field, then hit enter.
- In the command prompt type:
tracert pingcheck.vc.kixeye.com
...and hit "Enter."
- This test takes a little time to run. Please let the test run until it says “Trace complete” at the bottom of the test window.
- If you need to send these results to customer support, take a screenshot of the results and attach to a reply to your support ticket. If you’re unsure how to take a screenshot, visit https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ for details.
Traceroute on Mac
- Click the Finder, which looks like a magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your screen.
- You should see a text field appear. Type "Network Utility" into that field with no quotes. You should see a gold radar image with the words Network Utility next to it on the top of the results. Click on that icon to open the Network Utility.
- This will open your Network Utility, you should click the Traceroute option. Once you are there, type: "pingcheck.vc.kixeye.com" without quotes into the text field and hit enter.
- The test will generally take a minute or two to complete, and you will have a map of your connection as it travels to us.
- If you need to send these results to customer support, take a screenshot of the results and attach it to a reply to your support ticket. If you’re unsure how to take a screenshot, visit https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/mac.html for details.
What do these numbers indicate?
Each number is the result of a test and represents how many milliseconds it took the connection to respond. The program runs each 3 times.
If you see ping times over 100ms (and especially over 150ms), or a large number of asterisks indicating timeouts and data drops, this typically indicates a connection issue.
Any router or firewall used on the network should use default settings to ensure reliable connectivity. Ports 80, 8080, 8000, 50000, 53, 443, and 843 should be open to remote servers answering on these ports. If your router or firewall is set to default settings, this should not be an issue, as these are common ports.
3. System Information - How to check if my System meets requirements:
If you are uncertain if your system meets these requirements, you can find out by performing a test called a DxDiag. If you need to send this test result to customer support, just copy and paste the test results into a reply to your support ticket.
DxDiag for Windows
- Click your START/Windows button
- Go to "Run"
- Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
- Check through the tabs and perform all tests
- Click "Save All Information..." and include the saved text file in your reply
DxDiag for Mac
- Open your "Finder" window.
- Go to "Applications" and then to "Utilities."
- Open "System Information."
- Copy and paste the "Hardware Overview" and "System Software Overview" information into your reply.
